Falcon and the Winter Soldier failed where The Boys succeeded: Homelander proved that he is a real villain and his character development is much more believable.

Despite the success of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the series made a mistake with the development of John Walker, who at the beginning of the series was compared to Homelander from The Boys.

John Walker was named the new Captain America, but he was far from a hero, and his behavior put him in the path of villains.

Although the Flag Smashers were the main threat in the story, John Walker’s behavior was more worrying for the protagonists.

After taking the super soldier serum and slaying a Flag Smasher with the shield, it seemed like John Walker would completely go down the path of evil.

Walker was deposed as Captain America, Sam and Bucky removed his shield, and the series showed a scene of John Walker building his own weapon.

The development of the show indicated that the season finale would have a showdown between John Walker and the protagonists, but it did not happen that way.

Walker teamed up with the heroes to defeat the Flag Smashers, saved people, and even joked with Bucky after being a hated character.

The show’s director, Kari Skogland, revealed in an interview that they gave that arc to John Walker because they intended him to be a beloved character at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but they probably made a mistake.

The redemption of the villains usually takes time, as in the case of Zemo or Loki; however, John Walker’s happened in a hasty manner.

The show’s finale forgot about John Walker’s crimes and instability to give him a heroic image, when the whole development showed him as the antithesis of Captain America.

The series didn’t give the character a chance to fully explore his evil side, and audiences don’t see him as a hero yet either, although he has already received the title of US Agent.

This is why Homelander from The Boys triumphs over John Walker and the Marvel series, as the superpowered villain has never been shown as a sympathetic character who tries to please people.

Viewers of The Boys know what Homelander’s role is in the development of the plot and, although he is not a pleasant character, they accept him, and he is an important part of the series.

Homelander could find his redemption at some point in history, but enough time would have passed to show his new side.

In case it did not happen, it would also be understandable and would remain the hated Homelander of always, because he has never sought to be pleasant.

In this way, Homelander has a distinctive bow and personality, something John Walker was not given a chance to explore.

John Walker’s future could change as a US Agent and go back to being a villain, but at least in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, they made a hasty mistake.
